Positions Available

Dairy Operator would suit backpacker for 88 days or a young person interested in giving the dairy industy a go and doing a Traineeship at Tocal.


Immediate start for a term of 2-3 months, or longer for the right person, sponsorship also possible for right person who fits in with the team.

Award rates of pay, around 40 plus hours per week on average.

Bases rate for casual under pastoral award $27.00, $37.42 for overtime hours and, $48.11 for public holidays, with higher rates based on dairy experience.


The position could involve

milking cows,

feeding calves,

tractor work

and/or general farm work,

but depends on your experience, where we can best use your skills.


Experience not necessary, but would be highly advantageous


Flexible 10 day Fortnight with every second weekend off


Accommodation available for the right person, or there is a room available in share house $100 a week, if house kept clean


Herd Manager


A key herd management role within a 5th generation family-owned dairy farm business, Farm Profits has become available. The dairy farm has been operating since 1878, and is currently seeking an experienced Dairy Herd Manager that can maintain the award winning milk quality and farm performance that we are known for. If you think you can help maintain this award-winning status of the farm we would like to hear from you!


The role will focus on the supervision of staff, and the management of the herd to ensure productivity and animal health and welfare standards are consistently promoted. In addition to general farm maintenance, the Dairy Herd Manager will also be responsible for ensuring farm records are kept up to date and that farm tasks are undertaken in safe and appropriate manner.


·       Unique island location on the Holiday Coast NSW 3 hours north of Sydney Australia

·       Excellent salary $80,000 - 120,000 depending on level of experience

About the Company

Farm profits operates an award-winning dairy operation from the unique location on an Island, located in the Manning River near Taree on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. 

This innovative farm runs a herd of 700 cows, using a 60 bail rotary dairy with automatic cup removers, heatime cow heat detection, teat spraying and drafting systems. 

Our progressive farm achieve -

  • Premium milk quality all year (BMCC averages around 70 for the year, in top 100 farms in Australia for BMCC for 5 years),
  • High rates of pasture utilisation, 10-11 t/ha
  • High in-calf rates and low stock mortality


About the Role

Herd manager

Farm profits is currently looking to appoint a Dairy Herd Manager with at least 5 years proven experience to support the management of the operation. The role will focus on the supervision of staff, and the management of the herd to ensure productivity and animal health and welfare standards are consistently promoted. In addition to general farm maintenance, the Dairy Herd Manager will also be responsible for ensuring farm records are kept up to date and that farm tasks are undertaken in safe and appropriate manner.

Duties:

  • Strict adherence and implementation of farm safety procedures
  • Exceptional communication and organisational skills – attention to detail
  • Experience in efficiently supervising staff and ability to work as a team leader
  • Competent in dairy asset and equipment maintenance
  • Strong observational skills and the ability to adapt to change
  • Accountability and a willingness to lead by example
  • Providing appropriate care, feeding and stewardship of livestock
  • Able to plan an AI program and AI cows yourself


Skills and Experience:

Applications are sought from candidates with a demonstrated background in dairy operations, at a supervisory level or higher. You should be experienced in daily dairy and farm management duties, with a history in successfully supervising and motivating employees. You will have a solid understanding of animal health, welfare, breeding and nutrition principles and activities, with a genuine desire to ensure that livestock receive the best care and attention at all times. You will have a proven track record in artificial insemination, with relevant qualifications to support your experience. Sponsorship visa would be considered for right applicant.
